Gigabyte Gaming A16 (RTX 5060): detailed specifications and workshop review

The Gigabyte Gaming A16 with RTX 5060 (reference CVHH3FR893SD) is the laptop that opens our selection of 16-inch models under €1,250. It has a distinctive feature: it comes without Windows, running FreeDOS. Here's what that changes, who it's for, and how it compares to the other three Gaming A16 models.

Who is it for?

This model targets three profiles. Those who already own a Windows license (key from an old PC, license linked to a Microsoft account) and pay for the hardware and nothing else. Linux users, who have no reason to fund a system they're going to erase. And those looking for the lowest-priced RTX 5060 in a 16-inch 165 Hz chassis and are willing to install their own system.

For gaming, the RTX 5060 Laptop is well-suited for the native 1920 × 1200 display: high-refresh-rate competitive titles, demanding solo games at high settings with DLSS 4 support. The limit, common to three of the four models, is the 8 GB of video memory: for the heaviest titles, textures might need to be set one notch below "ultra." If the processor is central to your use, the RTX 5050 version with a 10-core Core i7 costs only slightly more.

Our Opinion, based on specs

Compared to the RTX 5050 version, sold for €19 more, the choice boils down to this: the 5060 offers a more powerful graphics card and 512 GB less SSD, without Windows; the 5050 offers a 10-core Core i7, 1 TB, and pre-installed Windows 11. If you primarily game and have a license, the RTX 5060 offers the best performance/price ratio in the range. If you want a ready-to-use machine and a more robust processor for multitasking, the 5050 holds its own.

Compared to the RTX 5070 (+€193), the graphics card gap is clear, and you also get the Core i7, 1 TB, and Windows. This is the most logical upgrade if the budget allows. The A16 Pro RTX 5070 Ti is in another category, with a 2560 × 1600 panel and 12 GB of VRAM, at nearly double the price.

Plan for a second SSD sooner or later: 512 GB fills up quickly with 100 GB games. As with all our laptops, the machine is checked and updated before shipping (BIOS, firmware, screen and keyboard test), with French after-sales service in Paris, a 2-year warranty, and payment in 4 interest-free installments.
