Gigabyte Gaming A16 (RTX 5050): detailed specifications and workshop review

The Gigabyte Gaming A16 with RTX 5050 (reference CTHI3FR894SH) is the entry-level "ready-to-use" machine in our selection: Windows 11 pre-installed, 1 TB SSD, and a 10-core Core i7, for €1,234.99. Here's its spec sheet, suitable user profiles, and our take compared to the other three Gaming A16 models.

Who is it for?

This is the laptop for those who want a complete machine with nothing to install: Windows is pre-loaded, the terabyte accommodates the system and a good dozen games, and the Core i7-13620H offers comfortable headroom for anything beyond pure gaming, from heavy multitasking to Full HD video editing and development. The target gamer plays at 1920 × 1200 on the integrated screen, primarily competitive titles or single-player games at medium to high settings, with DLSS 4 to smooth fluidity on the most demanding titles.

The RTX 5050 Laptop is the most modest card in the lineup, and its 8 GB of VRAM requires keeping textures below "ultra" on the heaviest games; DLSS 4 and Blackwell's multi-frame generation partially compensate.

Our Opinion, based on specs

The interesting duel is with the RTX 5060 version, €19 cheaper: the 5060 wins on the graphics card, the 5050 wins on the processor (10 cores vs. 8), storage (1 TB vs. 512 GB), and the included operating system. If gaming is your only criterion and you have a Windows license, go for the 5060; if you want a versatile, ready-to-use machine, the 5050 is the more coherent choice.

The RTX 5070 has the exact same specifications (same Core i7, same 1 TB, Windows included) but with a different graphics card, for €174 more. This is the natural upgrade if you truly want to utilize the 165 Hz on demanding games. The A16 Pro RTX 5070 Ti, with its 2560 × 1600 panel and 12 GB of VRAM, is for a different budget.

Our workshop advice: this configuration is a good, upgradeable base. Upgrading to 32 GB of RAM is simple (two accessible sticks), and a second SSD can be added without special tools. Each unit is checked and updated before shipping (Windows, BIOS, drivers, screen and keyboard test), with French after-sales service in Paris, a 2-year warranty, and payment in 4 interest-free installments.
