It's a turning point the hardware market has been watching for months: Nvidia, the undisputed king of GPUs, is now openly making moves in the processor arena. On July 21, 2026, Jensen Huang's company detailed the specifications of Vera, its central processor for artificial intelligence servers. And in parallel, evidence is mounting of an imminent arrival of Nvidia chips in our laptops. Let's break it down.

Vera: A Server CPU to Challenge AMD and Intel on Their Home Turf

Until now, Nvidia sold its AI GPUs with Grace processors integrated into its own systems. With Vera, the strategy changes: Nvidia is now offering a CPU as a standalone product, which cloud giants could deploy instead of AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon chips.

The numbers reflect the ambition. According to Wolfe Research analysts, each Vera chip would sell for around $5,000, with approximately 1.3 million units expected this year. Nvidia estimates that the server CPU market could eventually reach $200 billion — a very optimistic projection compared to the $37 billion estimated by Bernstein for 2025, but one that illustrates the company's appetite.

And on Our PCs? RTX Spark and the N1X Lead

For gamers, the most interesting developments are happening on the consumer side. At Computex 2026, Nvidia unveiled its RTX Spark chip, which combines a Blackwell GPU and a 20-core Grace CPU based on ARM architecture, developed in collaboration with MediaTek. Jensen Huang even spoke of "reinventing the PC" alongside Microsoft.

At the same time, rumors of an N1X processor for laptops are becoming more concrete. The idea: to offer an ARM alternative to Intel Core and AMD Ryzen chips, similar to what Apple has achieved with its M chips.

What this would concretely change

  • Redesigned gaming laptops: a CPU-GPU pairing designed by the same manufacturer would allow for fine-tuned power consumption and heat management, historical weaknesses of gaming laptops.
  • Price pressure: a credible third player competing with Intel and AMD would naturally drive price competition.
  • Compatibility issue: the ARM architecture requires an emulation layer for most current PC games, which are designed for x86. This is currently the main hindrance for gaming.

Intel and AMD Are Not Sitting Idle

It's an ironic twist of fate: while Nvidia dominates the AI news, it's Intel and AMD who are seeing the best stock market performance in 2026 among semiconductor stocks, driven by CPU demand and the rebound of their respective roadmaps. AMD is preparing for the arrival of Zen 6, with initial official announcements expected in late July, while Intel is defending its market share with the Core Ultra generation.

For the desktop PC market, nothing changes in the short term: AM4, AM5, and LGA1700/1851 platforms remain the standards for gaming PCs, and no ARM Nvidia chip has been announced for this segment. The battle will first be fought in servers and thin laptops.
