RAM and SSD Prices in June 2026: How to Buy Smart
If you've been following component prices for the past few months, you've certainly noticed: RAM and storage cost a lot more than they did a year ago. The shortage affecting NAND flash and DRAM has caused prices to skyrocket dramatically. In this context, finding a truly good deal requires knowing the right benchmarks. We're here to help you buy without making a mistake.
Why prices have increased so much
Demand for memory has exploded, driven in particular by the needs of data centers and artificial intelligence. As a result, manufacturers are prioritizing the most profitable products, and consumer-grade sticks like SSDs are becoming scarcer. The consequence is direct on your bill.
To give you an idea, a 2x16 GB DDR4-3600 kit went from around €64 at the end of 2024 to a peak close to €280 in spring 2026. On the storage side, a 1 TB Gen5 SSD currently retails for between €200 and €270, whereas it was around €100 to €130 a year earlier. A 2 TB model easily crosses the €350 mark.
Benchmarks to judge a truly good deal
When prices fluctuate so much, a seemingly high price can actually be a good deal. Here are the thresholds to keep in mind this June 2026:
- DDR4 32 GB (2x16 GB) Kit: Below €260, you're looking at a good price in the current market.
- DDR4 16 GB (2x8 GB) Kit: To be preferred for entry-level configurations, this is the most affordable format today.
- 1 TB NVMe SSD: Look out for offers that drop below €200 for Gen4 models.
The useful reflex: compare the current day's price to the average of the last few weeks rather than to prices from a year ago, which won't return anytime soon. Deal-tracking sites like Dealabs make it easy to visualize these curves.
How to limit spending on your build
A few simple choices can help mitigate the increase without sacrificing performance:
- Aim for the capacity you actually need: 16 GB of RAM is still comfortable for gaming, 32 GB only provides a real gain for content creation.
- For storage, a 1 TB Gen4 NVMe SSD offers an excellent price/performance balance compared to Gen5 models, which are more expensive and offer little perceptible gain in gaming.
- Prefer DDR4 sticks without RGB: lighting adds cost without improving performance.
